This results in:
- struggle amongst them in search of a new identity
- tension between them and their family members
- despair and loss of health
Nilotpala Jena, a resident of Bangalore, India has taken this issue head on.
She says "But, it doesn't have to be so. Senior citizens can be a source of knowledge for younger generations, guide and mentor for organizations to take them to new heights, powerful people in their community propelled by the experience that they have gained. They can be full of energy hope and health, and capable of making friends around the world and exuding an aura of power and inspiration whereever they go."
To make this a reality, Nilotpala is working with family, friends, organizations, HR consultants, start-up companies, and senior citizens themselves, who can be leaders and be inspiration for their friends and family. She plans to meet hundreds of senior citizens in the next few weeks. The only criteria is they should have "significant work experience." She says "I'm not restricting their area of expertise. They can be engineers , doctors, bankers, administrators. My goal is to create all sorts of mentoring opportunities for them."
